Today we were encourage to show some Earth love, by doing something good for the earth. And we were asked to share a photo of a poem or song lyrics that are meaningful to us. I packed the kids lunches for PE in Tupperware containers and put them in their lunchboxes. No extra paper or plastic bags to throw away. But if I'm honest it was way more about saving money because I'm out of sandwich size bags, than being overly worried about the earth. The song lyrics are easy. "Be Still, My Soul" or Abigail's song as the kids call it has very special meaning for us. In fact we put the last part of the last line on the back of her stone. I've often wondered what Katharina (the lady who wrote it) went through to inspire the words. Nothing seems to be known about her. I include the lyrics below.
1. Be still, my soul: The Lord is on thy side;
With patience bear thy cross of grief or pain.
Leave to thy God to order and provide;
In ev’ry change he faithful will remain.
Be still, my soul: Thy best, thy heav’nly Friend
Thru thorny ways leads to a joyful end.
2. Be still, my soul: Thy God doth undertake
To guide the future as he has the past.
Thy hope, thy confidence let nothing shake;
All now mysterious shall be bright at last.
Be still, my soul: The waves and winds still know
His voice who ruled them while he dwelt below.
3. Be still, my soul: The hour is hast’ning on
When we shall be forever with the Lord,
When disappointment, grief, and fear are gone,
Sorrow forgot, love’s purest joys restored.
Be still, my soul: When change and tears are past,
All safe and blessed we shall meet at last.
