27 Weeks
Our little Ruth is about 14 and 1/2 inches long and around 2 lbs, the size of a head of califlower, as she begins her 27th week. If we could see her now, her skin would look less translucent and more pinkish, as her blood vessels are near the skin and as she gains little fat deposits. Also, her placenta is nearly fully formed.
Yesterday, we got to take our very nasty glucose test to check for gestational diabetes. We will find out how that went when we go back to the doctor next Wednesday. That stuff is so horrible tasting, I was very happy that I didn't get sick with it, after all if you throw up, you have to do it all over again.
It was exciting to read that if she were born today she would have a 90% survival rate. This makes me feel much better given the fact that we might be about to move 2 or so hours North of here. We are currently planning to keep the same midwives (I really like them so much, and hate the idea of looking for another one this late in the game), and the last week or two coming back here to stay with somebody just to be on the safe side. With everything else up in the air, each week that I see a higher and higher survival rate makes me feel that much better.
