The Joy of My Salvation

Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation. ~Habakkuk 3:18

Well I can safely say, that I'm not any clumbsier than I was before. I do tire out much more quickly than before, and boy have I taken more naps in the last week what with all the work of moving. We are getting settled in here in Gainesville, starting to get some sort of a routine to life, though I'm sure that will all be rearranged when Britt gets back this weekend. It's nice to be able to sleep in a little, and snuggle on the couch and watch a movie with Gary in the evening. We are even thinking about trying to catch Eclipse tomorrow afternoon while we are still childless.

Ruth is around 3.3 lbs now, the size of 4 navel oranges (yummo). She is moving tons now, and you can see my stomache jumping around from across the room when she decided to readjust and roll over. I'm feeling more and more braxton hicks contractions, particularly when I've been up and working too much, without drinking plenty of water. There's just so much to do, that sometimes I forget to pace myself and may go all day without drinking water. My feet are killing me this week, I'm sure that has more to do with the concrete floor than being pregnant, but that and lower back pain are telling me that we are in the home streach now.

My weekly email tells me that it's time to back a bag for the hospital, but we're going to put that off a little while longer. I don't want to think about it yet, besides I'm still not unpacked from the move, why would I want to pack anything else. haha.

My favorite song that we did last year at singing school was He Leadeth Me. We learn to sing alot of more complicated songs in an effort to work our voices and abilities, which is always alot of fun. But to me, I really enjoy singing some of the more simple, yet beautiful harmonies.

I think in congregational singing it's far more appropriate to learn to sing well, blending together from the heart. Far too often the more showy pieces detract from the services because it's far too easy to pay attention to the fancy singing and forget about the meaning. And after all it's far more important to sing from the heart than whether we sing it right or not.

This song gave us a chance to work on blending our voices, and the words are very beautiful in their simplicity. I have to admit I really enjoyed splitting up the verses one for the women and one for the men. Hearing just the men sing was so very beautiful.

We do have alot of fun on Friday night, we get to dress up and show our parents and friends what we've been working on all week. We get to see what the other classes have been up to. We also get to do alot of congregational singing. Even better than Friday night though, are the afternoons were we just get together and call out songs that have special meaning to us.

One of my favorite songs is Child of Grace. It so perfectly describes our experience here and how we long to be home. I like to hear it lead a little slower, to really dwell on the meaning of the words, too often we rush it and miss out on the depth of the song. I called it out Friday afternoon, and I truely felt the Lord's presence with us.

Ruth is now as long as she will be at birth, from here on out she only be packing on the pounds. Right now she is weighing in around 3 lbs. Her eyes are starting to get color, though they won't be their final color until after they are exposed to sunlight, and the color can still change up to about 6 months old. She is starting to grow hair, and is beginning to lose the lanugo covering her body.

According to parents.com, I should be at the height of clumbsiness by now... guess I'll have to report on that post move. haha.

Yesterday, Momma and Daddy headed home to pack up all of our things so that we can move to Gainesville. However, I don't have to do any work, I get to stay with Ahna and Grumps. We are going to have a great time together playing and hanging out, then I get to go on a trip with them to Branson, Missouri, and then finally 4th of July weekend they will carry me to meet Momma and Daddy in our new place in Gainesville. I'm very excited about having Grumps and Ahna all to myself, even if Momma isn't wild about how long we will be apart. So, unless Grumps helps me out, don't expect me to be posting next week.

It has rained here in Alabama alot this past week, infact Daddy didn't get much of what he wanted done on the house, and Momma didn't get much done in the flowerbeds. When it's not raining is really hot, and super humid. Sunday afternoon I finally got to get in the little pool that Ahna sent Grumps to town after. I had alot of fun - mostly getting in and out of it, but also splashing around with a rubber ducky.

We are a little sad to not be making it to singing school this year. We always enjoy the week of good fellowship, away from the world, learning to sing better. Things just didn't work out this year though. Since we are busy packing and moving this week, I'll leave you a few post from some special songs from last year.

Today's video is of a song from last year that we never get tired of hearing or singing. This song is extra special because Bro. Bryce wrote it a few weeks before singing school with us in mind. The message of our liberty due to the work of Christ is a very comforting thought. No matter how bad things may get in this life, no matter what trials we face, no matter what persecution we suffer at the hands of the world, we are free from the eternal consequences of sin. Christ has given us the greatest of liberty, and for that reason we desire to serve Him regardless of the personal cost.

Hey Britt,
On Tuesday you will be 17 months old. Wow have things changed! It seems that your are doing more and more each day. You now can walk, run, climb, and get into about anything you put your mind to it. It's great that you are now talking more and more each day sometimes even stringing a couple of words together and of course you enjoy making animal sounds. We laugh all the time when you make your horse sound or monkey noises. You also love to dance, even when there is no music going on. Even though Momma needs to teach you some more better steps.
It's amazing how much you have changed since last Father's Day. You have become much more independent since last year. You rather walk to different places than to have us carry you, which is great since you weigh around 28 pounds now. Its getting much harder now to just pick you up and go. Last fathers day you were still just drinking milk and now while you still love milk, you also are eating everything from the table now. It is fun to feed you regular food, but sometimes it's frustrating when you make unnecessary messes. Son, it is so much fun watching you chase Mara and the chickens around in the yard. Mara, being lazy, will go about ten feet away, lay back down, and you will follow, then she would jump up again, move away again, and y'all repeat the process until she runs out of space and runs off again. I love just how much you just love being outside and digging in the yard - pulling grass, picking up sticks, and against our approval eating acorns, dirt, and whatever we don't want you to put in your mouth. But you are a boy and love to get dirty. You just have to touch anything whether it's in reach or not, but that's the way you seem to learn. I could go on but need to stop somewhere.
More changes are coming to your life though. You will soon be a big brother with your sister Ruth on her way. I am kind of interested in how you will act when we bring home your baby sister. And the fact that we are moving to Gainesville for a year so I can work on my masters degree. It will be a whole new location, new yard to explore, and we will be attending a different church on Sunday. But I am sure you are going to be your usual bright self and just shine.
I hope to be able to teach you to enjoy even more things outdoors. You will soon be big enough to learn how to play on a tricycle and doing more outdoor activities like fishing - where we can focus on catching fish instead of just trying to make sure you stay in the boat. Also, while we are in Gainesville home of The Florida Gators, I hope we can get the opportunity to watch some football games live in the SWAMP! The toughest thing I believe for me this year is going to find enough quality time with you; while trying to working, going to school, and with your little sister coming around September first. But of course, I never have enough time to do all that I want with you.
I am so thankful to have such a loving wife who supports me any way she can and with a healthy growing family that has been such wonderful joy for me. I am truly a blessed man. I love you very much.

Daddy

Ruth is approximately 15 cm long and 2 1/2 lbs, about the size of a butternut squash. Don't you love how they keep comparing tiny tiny babies to various fruits and vegetables, it makes me look at the produce section in the grocery store a little differently. She has enough cute baby fat to have dimples on her elbows and knees now. She's also starting to get a little crowded, she'll start bowing her head down between her knees the larger she gets, and her kicks are getting stronger. I feel her more and more often these days, and she currently seems to enjoy propping her feet up on the inside and to the left of my ribcage. I'm starting to wonder if I'm going to have bruised ribs by the time she's ready to move out of there.

We are still enjoying the pleasures of morning sickness, though last Wednesday at my doctor's appointment we got some phenegran. I like phenegran. They gave me that stuff with Britt and I slept 22 hrs a day, it was GREAT! We have hesitated taking it this time around for that very reason. However, with the zofran doing nothing for me, we got some this time. As long as I take the zofran in the day, and half of a phenegran in the evening, I'm not as sick. Additional bonus is that I'm sleeping way better at night too.

We are so very excited to see our Ruth, though at times it still doesn't seem quiet real. Something tells me that the summer will be flying by, what with us moving, Gary taking classes, and more doctor's appointments. Lots to do before she arrives in another 2 1/2 months.

I like blocks. I especially like knocking down blocks. Uncle Nicholas, Grumps, and Grandmother will stack them up over and over for me to knock down. If you haven't tried it, you should. Today, I even helped Uncle Nicholas stack them a time or two, but that wasn't as fun. Sometimes he would ask me to wait, and it was very exciting, but I couldn't always wait for him to get them really high, after all it's just too much fun to knock them down.

Today Sis. Sara came to pick me and Momma up for a trip. I was very excited because it's been a while since we got to have fun with her. We drove a while, and when we stopped we had arrived at the barn! I got to see Sis. Sara and Sis. Rachel's horse, Delilah. It had been a long time since I saw her.The barn was really big, and I walked around looking at all the horses, and all the interesting things that they keep in their big toy boxes. Sis. Sara gave me a brush out of Delilah's toy box, and after watching Momma for a bit, I brushed her.Poor Delilah had hurt her foot, so Sara had to clean it out and soak it. She didn't like that much, but while Sara was working on her, Momma and I walked around in the grass and admired all the horses. After Delilah ate some grass and went back to her stall, Sis. Sara took some carrots out to a few of the other horses. I followed behind her as fast as I could run, and one particularly dark pony that Momma liked talked to me some.

Delilah was so big, but I like to pat and brush her. She was very soft, especially her nose, but I didn't like it at all when she blew on me. It's almost as bad as when dogs lick on you.

Granna's latest procedure seems to have taken better than the last several. The doctors are still concerned that they might need to do something more, but right now she is doing better.

Megan had her baby girl, last Thursday on June 3rd at 3:46 pm. She has named her Mollie Alyse. She weighs 6 lbs. and 12 oz. and is 20 and ½ inches long. Both are doing well, and we hope to see them soon!

Gary and I went up to Gainesville on Thursday and Friday and have narrowed down our apartment search, we are excited to report that he will be starting on his Master's June 28th. Please pray for us, as we take this exciting next step.

Our little Ruth is about 14 and 1/2 inches long and around 2 lbs, the size of a head of califlower, as she begins her 27th week. If we could see her now, her skin would look less translucent and more pinkish, as her blood vessels are near the skin and as she gains little fat deposits. Also, her placenta is nearly fully formed.

Yesterday, we got to take our very nasty glucose test to check for gestational diabetes. We will find out how that went when we go back to the doctor next Wednesday. That stuff is so horrible tasting, I was very happy that I didn't get sick with it, after all if you throw up, you have to do it all over again.

It was exciting to read that if she were born today she would have a 90% survival rate. This makes me feel much better given the fact that we might be about to move 2 or so hours North of here. We are currently planning to keep the same midwives (I really like them so much, and hate the idea of looking for another one this late in the game), and the last week or two coming back here to stay with somebody just to be on the safe side. With everything else up in the air, each week that I see a higher and higher survival rate makes me feel that much better.

Sorry about not blogging all last week. I was a very busy little boy. I spent lots of time with Ahna and Grumps filling up the end tables with toys, and with Grandmother and Granddaddy rocking in the rocker, and with Uncle Nick and Uncle Benji pointing out the chimes and especially the clock. I just didn't find time to blog, but I can make up with an extra exciting post about seeing the hot air balloons.
Ever since Momma and my uncles were little they have been getting up at the crack of dawn on the Saturday before Memorial Day and heading out to Point Mallard to watch the balloon races. Lots of the time, their cousins from Tennessee would come down and they would make a day of it, watching the balloons in the morning and playing games out in the fields in the afternoon. I told Momma that she should scan a picture into the computer yesterday while we were at Ahna's and Grumps's so I could show you but she didn't, so you'll just have to take my word for it.
We didn't get to go on Saturday morning though, because it was raining, and Grumps didn't want to drag us all out there if we weren't going to get to see them go. Instead he showed me some balloons from last year in the paper. I knew exactly what they were and pointed them out, but I really was hoping to get to see them for myself.
Lucky for me it dried up enough Saturday afternoon for us to go out and see the balloons that night after we ate supper. We sat around a little and then Grumps and I walked all over the place while the others sat and visited.
When they started filling up the balloons we headed over to that area of the field. They were really big, and I was so excited to watch them stand up. I kept getting closer and closer and closer, and then all of a sudden they shot fire up inside and I decided that I could see them fine from where I was. They only pulled out 7 that night, but I thought they were so pretty lite up with fire from inside as it got dark. Grumps said maybe I can come back next year and see all 100 when they go off.
We admired the balloons awhile before heading back toward the car. On our way back, this crazy man ran up to Grumps and started hollaring at him that a balloon was falling down. It didn't seem to matter to him that we weren't in the way, but he wanted us to go elsewhere and go faster. Uncle Benji ran in to save the day and asked the man "Can you just chill out?" The crazy man then yelled "No, I can not!" A different balloon man came and apologized, but it didn't bother Grumps any. It just made for a really fun story to tell Ahna when we got back to her.
It was a very exciting day, and we got to see lots of pretty balloons. I hope we do get a chance to go again next year, because I would like to get to see them take off and fly next time.
