Last Saturday, we went to the annual Varnum Cane Grinding. Gary's mother's uncle hosts it every year the second weekend in November. I had been to a cane grinding on mule day in West Tennessee, but it was different. They had an interesting grinder that you feed two shoots into at a time. We chewed cane and watched them make three batches of cane syrup while eating up the last of last year's with biscuits. The syrup was very different from what I have had of Alabama cane, I personally would prefer molasses any day.
The one down point, I forgot to bring my camera. Better luck next year.
