The Joy of My Salvation

Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation. ~Habakkuk 3:18

So now that we know that it's a boy, we can do all those things I've been ready to do for a month. You know, stuff like painting the nursery, buying furniture, organizing and cleaning out the closet and drawers, make baby stuff. The question now becomes where to start?

Monday, Sara was very sweet and came over and helped me clean the entire house. When I had such bad morning sickness nothing got cleaned, and now that I'm past that, I still don't have much energy to do much. Seems like I have about 30 mins or so worth then I have to sit about an hour before I can go again. As a result, I have managed the mess instead of eliminating it. Everything gets a good picking up once or twice a week, but nothing really gets cleaned. It wasn't fun and it wasn't pretty, but we got everything cleaned on Monday. Thanks bunches Sara, I could have never done it without you! So check one, house very clean.

Back on Saturday we started painting in Britt's room. I'm doing a cowboy mural on one of the walls. On Saturday, Gary helped by rolling most of the grass and sky and I cut in around plugs and worked on the edges. On Monday, Sara and I even had a little time to paint some. As of right now we have a big oak tree (with no leaves yet), some grass, several happy clouds (Bob Ross would be proud), a barn with silo, and the start of some woods. Kelsey has promised to supply me with pictures of some cows, and I hope to work on it a chunk of the day on Friday as well. So that outta count for about a 1/4 of a check.

We have finally it seems decided on a baby bed. It's a pretty convertible crib, going from bassinet height, to crib height, to toddler bed, and finally to full size bed. I think it's going to be very useful. Of course with Gary these things are always subject to change, and we haven't bought it yet, got to save up a bit more money, but I think that makes 1/2 a check.

Things yet to be started... cleaning out the junk closet. See lots of things are stored in the closet in the nursery. One side has all of my and Gary's winter heavy coats (I haven't convinced myself that I won't need them anymore). Then there is all that yarn in buckets under and over the clothes, then just stuff on the other side of the closet. Oh and did I mention that the baby's dresser is full of all of our fabric for quilting. Yeah, so I still have alot to do as far as organizing goes.

Finally, my biggest quandry so far, is what kind of baby blanket to make for him. I have rarely had trouble deciding what kind of baby blanket to make for someone (in fact only Sis. Kelly's has been a long thought process); however, I seem to have no ideas what so ever for making my own son a blanket. Go figure. I do at least know that I'm making him some booties, as soon as I can find my grandmother's pattern that is. She made one, and I need to make a second one, so that he has a pair.

So much to do, and for some reason, 4 1/2 months doesn't seem like all that much time.

Money has been tight around our household, particular since we found out that we are pregnant and for some strange reason we have to pay to have our baby. I mean who would have ever thought that the OB and the hosptial would have charged so much for such a little (I hope) bundle of joy. So, to that end I have been praying and looking for something that I can do from around the house (Gary doesn't want me working) that will bring in some extra, hopefully steady money. And just maybe, we might have found something.

When I was in college I use to make a pretty good little bit of extra money making and selling scarves in the winter. It started out me working on some and a few people at work wanted one and paid me for my work. So I was working on them on campus and got more orders. The more I made the more I sold. Pretty soon I was displaying them in the English Department and in a couple of local stores. In the summer time I made and sold a few baby blankets and shawls. However, as one might expect there is no market for scarves in Florida, and I still have about 40 made up from the last winter in Alabama. So I got this brillant idea why not check in with Jeremy or Strem and see if they know of any place to sell them, or if they would mind to market them for a portion of the proceeds. What do you know, but Jeremy and his sister happen to know of a place that might be interested. So I'm going to be mailing a few up to him tomorrow, and hopefully this place will be interested. If you don't mind could you keep the matter in your prayers, this would be a great thing for us.

Don't you just love that title. This would be comical in a show, but in real life I'm frustrated and Gary is just plan mad.

Last time we drove to Alabama in the car, on the way home, late at night, coming down I-10 we hit some sort of cat like creature. Gary has speculated everything from bobcat to Florida panther. In any event, it took off the front grill, and shortly there after we started having problems with the car overheating. It wasn't long before Gary couldn't even drive it the mile to work or back home. We figured that the radiator was busted. As a result the last two or maybe even three months, we've made do with just my car.

Well, we finally had convinced the dealership that a radiator was covered under our extended warrenty, so they told us to bring it over and they would check it out. Well, the verdict wasn't radiator at all it was a themostate thing. Apparently it's not working at all, and needs to be replaced so that it can tell the radiator to circulate water when the engine starts getting hot.

The verdict ended up being that this isn't included in our warrenty, and Gary got very, very angry. He paid $2-3,000 for the extended warrenty, and they won't fix a part that is connected to the engine. The price to fix it $450. So we called around and might have found a place to fix it for $100. Still high considering that Auto Zone sells the part for $12.99, but better. So we got ready to tow it over today, and what else does the dealership pull out? Well, since the part isn't covered by the warrenty to check out the car and discover that is now no longer free of charge. They wanted $60 to tell us that their engine that is supposed insured doesn't work right and that they won't fix it. Let's just say that Gary was a VERY unhappy camper.

This in my humble opinion is why car dealerships are worth less than dirt... crummy, mean people.

IT'S A BOY!!!
Bro. Randy and Bro. Matt and the illustrious Elder John Yadamec have been the only ones that from the word go in this pregnancy have been convinced that it was going to be a boy. Now there really will be no living with them.
Above his little mouth is closed, below he's yawning and it's open.
So I'm a little excited. We got to see him today. He is such a mover. We got to spend extra time with him cause the technication couldn't catch him still long enough in the right positions to measure and check everything. She told us that if he moves this much always, that he's going to be a handful. haha. I'm so excited.
He is definately a big baby boy. He already weighs in at 8 oz or 1/2 lb. That puts him in the 70% and usually at this point babies are in the 40-50%. The ultrasound technication lady, Ellen, said that means that if he keep growing like this he will be a large 8 lb or maybe 9 lb baby, if he gains the extra weight there at the end that many babies do, I might get a 10 pounder. That doesn't sound good to me. Think small, little, cute, baby boy people. haha.
BTW, his name will be Elisha Britt, and we'll call him Britt.
Here he was playing with his hands. Above they are fist, and below he was waving.
This picture was taken after we had to go back, Ellen called us to tell us that she forgot to get his heartrate, and that insurance won't pay if we don't get that. Look at how much he had moved! He's on his head now, in the most uncomfortable looking position.

Last Friday night, we had the joy to head over to the Millers for a sing. We got started a little late, cause Gary and I were late in getting there. But we sang about an hour and a half or two then had a food break, and then sang another 45 minutes or so before cleaning up and heading home.
The above pictures I took while we were singing before food, and the pictures below were taken by Kyle and Justin. They were a little crazy after eating.

I'm finally able to post a couple of blogs. First of all last Thursday the most amazing thing happened. Our stroller came in. I'm so pysched! Mother and Daddy wanted to get us a good travel system stroller for the baby. So we looked at several and finally had them narrowed down to a Graco and an Eddie Bauer. Gary made the final call because the Eddie Bauer was "prettier" since we couldn't really tell a difference and they were basically the same price. So it came in on Thursday, and I was too excited to let it sit in a box until our shower, so I made Gary pull it out and put it together. I wish I had the camera for that. It was priceless. I can't wait to watch him put a crib together, if the stroller was this much fun.
On another note, our sonogram is tomorrow afternoon around 3:15. I expect to be home by 6 or 7, so give me some time to scan in pictures and then we should have some blogger news for you. :)

I hate going to the dentist, it's the one doctor's visit that I really dread for the year. Justin said that I wouldn't write about hating to visit the dentist, so of course that means I have to.

As long as I can remember I went to Dr. Nix at home for the dentist, he was cool and played QB for Auburn. A few years back Dr. Bedsole took over his practice when he retired, and I guess he was ok too. But the truth is the dentist is infinately less fun when you have to pay their outragous fees and no longer get a free toy or two from their toy chest.

I've had so many other things to do, and the dentist being less desirable was not on my list of immediate concerns like find an athma doctor, find a real doctor, oh I'm pregnant find an OB, you get the picture. However, since becoming pregnant my gums bleed basically every time I brush, and have even started bleeding when I eat. Sorry, tmi for some of you.

So after working for several months to get me on our dental insurance, off I went to the Dentist on Monday. Where I discovered that I have the beginnings of 5 cavities and some pregnancy teeth issues. I was shocked, I have never had a cavity. I know what Mother would say, that's what I get for skipping a dentist appointment, and slacking on my teeth since I got pregnant.

So today I had to go back for an industrial cleaning. See I've known for sometime that extra calculus builds up on my teeth for some reason and that it covers plaque and stuff. Apparently if I don't go every 6 months like you are suppose to the stuff gets hard enough that it has to be cleaned off. So today they got to saw/drill/buff/whatever my teeth to get all of that off and let me tell you with bleeding gums that's seriously no fun. I get to go back in 8 weeks for them to check on things again, but I have learned my lesson, dentist every 6 months.

Baby Nate Ferrel had his pre-op today, and will be having his MRI tomorrow. Remember to keep them in prayers as they will be at the hospital a chunk of the day.

I'm adding our pastor Elder Buddy Abernathy to the list. He has had some problems from the medication that he is on, and has struggled alot now that they are getting him off of it. If you would remember him and Sis. Tina and the family at this time.

Parker Allen continues to improve a little at a time. They are getting him out more, and hope that he will be able to speak again soon. He is alert and recognizes people now, and can communicate some with his hand and his eyes. Much improved over time.

All of those who are expecting babies (Sis. Kelly Spezzano, Sis. Liz York, Joan Ellen, Us).

We received good news all around at our appointment on Thursday afternoon. Baby and I are both healthy and sound/look good. We did discover that our little one really doesn't like the doppler (not all that uncommon we were told). Infact he squirmed so much that he couldn't get a definate heartrate, best guess is lower to mid 160s. At one point, there at the end, he finally kicked the doppler, and moved back to my spine where we couldn't get a clear beat. My OB sat there and said he just kicked me. When I told Gary about it he just laughed and said that's my boy!
We were scheduled for an ultrasound to find out what we are having. It will be August 21 at 3:15 pm. We will be at 18 weeks exactly then. Our final ultrasound will be a 4-D ultrasound on November 18 at 11:15. Very exciting stuff. What's a 4-D Ultrasound you say? My mother asked me the other day what the extra dimention was, and I couldn't tell her either. I found out however. A 3-D ultrasound are the pictures above and below this paragraph. They aren't like the old 2-D black and white photos, because the 3rd dimention is volume, allowing you to not just see the out line of the baby, but their facial features and what they are doing (like kicking, smiling, or sucking their thumb like below, and who they look like. (Gary is hoping for a baby with BIG Cunningham ears). 4-D is the video of the 3-D still photos.
Finally, the best piece of news coming out of the doctor's office was that the baby can't have CF. While Gary and I were on vacation, we received a call from the OB saying that my blood test had come back positive as a carrier of the gene for Cystic Fibrois. I was concerned, because even with all the advances in medicine children with CF rarely live to/past 30, and have lots of health complications. They wanted to test Gary to see if he was a carrier. If so we would have a 1 in 4 chance of the baby having CF. Well, the test results came back and he is not a carrier. We have been praying about this, but chose to not tell more than a couple of people because we didn't want to create unneccisary worry until we knew if it was even a possiblity for the baby to have it. Most of our family and friends have been under alot of stress and different things, and we didn't want to add to it until we knew more. Thankfully we don't have to worry about that now. The Lord has continued to take care of me and our Little One, and for that, and all of your prayers, Gary and I are incredibly grateful.

So I think for sure now that I've felt the baby move.

Friday night was the first that I thought I felt something. We were just sitting at Borrowed Dad's after church and visiting, and I felt something funny, like a flutter or a twitch or something. I didn't say anything to Gary at the time, cause I wasn't sure, and I knew it was too early for him to feel it. Then Sunday afternoon when we were laying down I felt it again, but stronger. Then last night we were in bed, and it felt like the baby was rolling, and then like a kick or two. It was really neat, I'm pretty sure last night was the baby, though I'm not sure that Fri. and Sun. were. The OB said that some women start feeling them as early as the beginning of 14 weeks, but that they won't be consistant until about 18 - 20 weeks when they are bigger.

I'm really excited, it was so cool. If only I didn't have to wait a whole month to find out what we are having. The suspense is killing me.

A friend shared this with me, and I thought that it was too funny to not pass along!

Test 1 - Preparation Women: To prepare for pregnancy:
1. Put on a dressing gown and stick a beanbag down the front.
2. Leave it there.
3. After 9 months remove 5% of the beans.

Men: To prepare for children:
1. Go to a local chemist, tip the contents of your wallet onto the counter and tell the pharmacist to help himself
2. Go to the supermarket. Arrange to have your salary paid directly to their head office.
3. Go home. Pick up the newspaper and read it for the last time.

Test 2 - Knowledge
Find a couple who are already parents and berate them about their methods of discipline, lack of patience, appallingly low tolerance levels and how they have allowed their children to run wild. Suggest ways in whichthey might improve their child's sleeping habits, toilet training, table manners and overall behavior. Enjoy it. It will be the last time in your life that you will have all the answers.

Test 3 - Nights To discover how the nights will feel:
1. Walk around the living room from 5pm to 10pm carrying a wet bag weighing approximately 4 - 6kg, with a radio turned to static (or some other obnoxious sound) playing loudly.
2. At 10pm, put the bag down, set the alarm for midnight and go to sleep.
3. Get up at 11pm and walk the bag around the living room until 1am.
4. Set the alarm for 3am.
5. As you can't get back to sleep, get up at 2am and make a cup of tea.
6. Go to bed at 2.45am.
7. Get up again at 3am when the alarm goes off.
8. Sing songs in the dark until 4am.
9. Put the alarm on for 5am. Get up when it goes off.
10. Make breakfast.Keep this up for 5 years. LOOK CHEERFUL.

Test 4 - Dressing Small Children
1. Buy a live octopus and a string bag.
2. Attempt to put the octopus into the string bag so that no arms hang out.
Time Allowed: 5 minutes.

Test 5 - Car
s1. Forget the BMW. Buy a practical 5-door wagon.
2. Buy a chocolate ice cream cone and put it in the glove compartment. Leave it there.
3. Get a coin. Insert it into the CD player.
4. Take a box of chocolate biscuits; mash them into the back seat.
5. Run a garden rake along both sides of the car.

Test 6 - Going For a Walk
Wait
Go out the front door
Come back in again
Go out
Come back in again
Go out again
Walk down the front path
Walk back up it
Walk down it again
Walk very slowly down the road for five minutes.
Stop, inspect minutely and ask at least 6 questions about every piece of used chewing gum, dirty tissue and dead insect along the way.
Retrace your steps
Scream that you have had as much as you can stand until the neighbours come out and stare at you.
Give up and go back into the house.
You are now just about ready to try taking a small child for a walk.

Test 7
Repeat everything you say at least 5 times.

Test 8 - Grocery Shopping
1. Go to the local supermarket. Take with you the nearest thing you can find to a pre-school child - a fully grown goat is excellent. If you intend to have more than one child, take more than one goat.
2. Buy your weekly groceries without letting the goat(s) out of your sight.
3. Pay for everything the goat eats or destroys. Until you can easily accomplish this, do not even contemplate having children.

Test 9 - Feeding a 1 year-old
1. Hollow out a melon
2. Make a small hole in the side
3. Suspend the melon from the ceiling and swing it side to side
4. Now get a bowl of soggy cornflakes and attempt to spoon them into the swaying melon while pretending to be an aeroplane.
5. Continue until half the cornflakes are gone.
6. Tip the rest into your lap, making sure that a lot of it falls on the floor.

Test 10 - TV
1. Learn the names of every character from the Wiggles, Barney, Teletubbies and Disney.
2. Watch nothing else on television for at least 5 years.

Test 11 - Mess, Can you stand the mess children make? To find out:
1. Smear peanut butter onto the sofa and jam onto the curtains
2. Hide a fish behind the stereo and leave it there all summer.
3. Stick your fingers in the flowerbeds and then rub them on clean walls. Cover the stains with crayon. How does that look?

"Come and Play with Me"I confess I'm getting more excited by the day about this baby. I am going over and over the budget: what can be cut, what can't, where we can make more money, saving for the hospital bills, college, daily expenses. I am mentally rearranging the entire house: what can't stay in the baby's room, what can, where we are going to put stuff that can't stay there, what else has to move in order to make room for that stuff. I am mentally and actually child proofing things: where are the plug covers, that chess set cannot possibly stay there, how easier are those bookcases to tip over, where are the child locks for the kitchen cabinets, are the cleaning stuffs out of reach. I am told that this is all completely normal, and it even has a fancy word - nesting. All I can say is poor Gary, if he has to continue to put up with the questions from me and more for the next 5 months, he might go crazy. I had a great time with my family in Alabama last week. I just wish I could stay for ever, or have more oppertunities to see them. In reality I know I will see them less after the baby is born because we won't have the money to fly or drive up there as often, and they won't have anymore vacation type to come visit than they already have. I just don't like thinking that they won't be a daily part of my kids lives. Needless to say, I've been overly emotional lately. While I was home though, we were able to spend some good quality time together. Mother and I went to town almost everyday, on Friday we went and looked at all the baby clothes in Decatur. About every 15 mins, Mother would say, "If I knew it was going to be a girl I would get this dress." I'm expecting about 15 dresses from her after we find out it's a girl, haha. On Saturday we went to Lowes with Daddy and while he was getting paint and stuff for the laundry room, Mother and I looked at baby decorating books. On Sunday afternoon, the three of us went to Babies R Us and started looking through the stuff I had picked out on my registery. I wanted her approval and thoughts, we also picked out a few more things that I hadn't decided on. On Monday morning, Grandmother and Mother and I all went looking for maternity dresses for church, you wouldn't believe how hard it is to find dresses, I guess pregnant women don't go to church, or if they do, they wear pants or dresses that are entirely too short. That afternoon Aunt Melanie and Maghen joined me in the hunt and we where pleased to find 3 great dresses, 2 dress shirts, and 4 sleepers for the baby. On Tuesday, Grandmother and I went back to town and found another dress, a skirt to go with the tops from the day before, and 2 sleeping gowns (or now they call them sleep sacks) for the baby. On Wednesday and Thursday we just visited and spent time together. It was great to be home. My first baby gift that I got was from Abby, a great friend from back home, she knitted me a little sweater/top in cream with brown trim that will look good for a boy or a girl. I was so impressed! So now I have a little jacket/sweater/top thing, 4 sleepers, and 2 sleeping gowns. I can't wait to find out what we are having in about a month and start painting!

Baby Nate Ferrel did go for his EKG, and while they haven't gotten back the official reports, Amber feels like things looked good. Remember them as he will be having an MRI in the next couple of weeks.

Joan Ellen has been diagnosed with gestational diabetes. He and Mom and Dad would especially like to have your prayers for her and the baby.

Parker Allen has had some resent test, and there is a good chance that speaking isn't far off for him. He is continuing to improve. Please pray extra for the family right now, as they prepare to make some changes. His father, Coach Allen will be going back to teaching and coaching this month, as school continues. His mother, Mrs. Allen, plans to remain a teacher at East Lawrence Elementary, but will be using her sick days, and donated sick days and vacation time in order to continue staying at home and caring for Parker.

...because it has no pictures. We had a good night at church tonight but unfortunately Elder Tim didn't have much light. During supper tonight that lights flicker several times, but the lights stayed on through song service. While Elder Buddy was introducing services and Bro Tim was about to get in the stand, off went the lights. So Gary got to lead for an extra 15 minutes in the dark. We sung songs from memory and we sung Scripture songs and still no light. Ultimately Bro Tim had to preach in the dark with no air conditioning with two small candles. In all seriousness though, he had a good sermon on burdens and we had a great evening. However, I sure hope we have air conditioning and lights tomorrow.

After church several of us headed over to Bro Sonny and Sis Beverly house, where we sang, ate cookies, and visited. This is also when we discovered that Bethany only reads blogs with pictures. : ) It always good to visit with PB friends.

My mother pointed out to me last night, when I arrived home that she had yet to see my ultrasound pictures on the blog, and was hoping that I brought them with me. So, while I'm waiting for her to get back home from working out, I thought that I would scan them, edit them, and load them for the rest of you, since I did promise to post them.

If you can make these out first of all I congradulate you. They are hard to see on the tiny paper I have, and even harder to see scanned in the computer. Above is the baby facing upward. The head is on the left, and one of those little buds that look like feet is actually the little bit of a tail that he/she still had. Below, we got to see the baby roll over away from us. They say that some babies really don't like the frequency at which the ultrasound opperates, and they move away from it. In the picture below you can see her/his backbone all the way down. I drew a red line underneath it to help show where it was in the picture. Also the in the little red circle is the two chamber heart. It was so neat to see when our sonogram technition turned on the blood flow, because you could see it quickly changing in each chamber from red to blue, as blood flowed in one, out of the other, and then more blood moving through. These were taken at 8 weeks and 4 days, when our baby was close to 2 mm long. So once again, if you can make out any of this I congradulate you. Our next ultrasound will be between 18 and 20 weeks, hopefully around Sept. 1, and if baby cooperates we will know if we will be having a Britt or a Libby. :)

Faithful readers, just a question for you all. Libby is the name we are thinking about using for a girl. Everyone seems to like it, but a few people have pointed out that it is a great name for a girl, but can't see it for a grown woman. Obviously we will ultimately do what we want, but i wanted further thought. What do you think?

Updates all around today.

Baby Nate Ferrel goes for an EKG today. His pre-op for the MRI is on August 13th. He has to undergo pre-op since he will be put under anesthesia. The MRI will be August 14th, and they will be looking specifically at his head, cervical spine, lumbar spine, and thoracic spine. They expect him to be under about an hour. Please continue to pray for him and his family.

Aunt Joanna has returned home. Please continue to remember her family and all of those who have recently lost loved ones. The Tucker family, the Aday/Kitchens family, and one of Gary's co-workers who just lost his Mother.

Parker Allen is slowly and steadily improving. He has more and more consistant control over his right hand and foot, and is gaining control over his right arm and leg. The family continues to be strengthened by God at this time, and Parker seems to have great strength as well. Please continue to pray for him, as it is evident that the Lord is healing him a little at a time.

Please continue to remember all who are pregnant at this time, I've added a new one to the prayer list.

Please continue to pray for spiritual growth in our churches and for our ministers. I feel personally that when we are in the right place spiritually, that the Lord will bless us with the appropriate numbers.

Also, please continue to remember our armed forces, our President, and the upcoming election.

...will not be my child's name contrary to what you might have heard.

Today at quilting the girls and I decided to pick out a girls and boys name since Gary won't help pick any out, and all that are suggested to him he vetoes. The grand plan was to present him with a name not previously vetoed, and tell him these would be our names. The only requirement was a Biblical name to go with Britt and Libby

Kelly pulled out the book of all Biblical names and we set out looking for some good names. Sara was a great deal of help and Hannah was too, that is until she started actually looking at some of the names. Hannah's two favorite Biblical names for a boy to go with Britt were...

Vajezatha Britt
Gederothaim Britt

However her favorite name of all is Huckleberry Britt. I had previously mentioned that I like Irish and Scottish names, one in particular that I had suggested as a possible middle name was Finn (or the English verison of Fionn). All Hannah could burst out with was "Like Huckleberry Finn!?" She then tried to explain to me that Huckleberry was a biblical name, because "They talk about berries in the Bible." Needless to say, she is telling everyone that even if we don't name him Huckleberry that it will be his nickname, and the support she has gotten so far has been unbelievable. Some people really have no taste at all.

A few serious ones that Gary hadn't already vetoed where suggested like Libby Magdalene, Uriah Britt, Joash Britt, Lucus Britt, etc. So tonight, Gary and I talked some and we finally have some tenative names that he will consider using. For a boy Elisha/Elijah Britt (whichever is his grandfather's middle name, though we like Elisha best) and for a girl Libby Grace. I am very happy that I got "maybe" out of him, after all he has actively vetoed every name offered.

Least you all believe that we didn't actually do any singing or learn much while we were gone, I present to you this post. I really enjoy the week at singing school every year. I never would have imagined that it would mean so much to me, before I started going. However, a week of good and Godly company, clean fun, and a complete lack of phones, tvs, internet, work, and all things worldly, does my soul good. I may be a bit physically tired afterward, but my soul gets recharged. Each morning the boys cook and serve breakfast, before we head off to devotional with Bro. Charles. He preaches a 30 min sermon, and sometimes, you can tell when he has to sit down that he just got going. Our theme verse this year came from Colossians 3:17, "And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him." Over the course of the week we came to understand that everything we do, whether we say it or actually do it, it should be to God's glory, to reflect possitively on his name, because no matter what we do or say, when people know that we call ourselves Christians, they draw assumptions about us, our family, our Church, and our Lord. We should always want to bring glory to His name by the way we act. Not shame. We also learned, if what we are doing doesn't bring honor to him, if where we go, who we hang out with, the movies we see, the music we listen to, then we don't need to be doing those things. Finally toward the end of the week, we talked about how we are to always give thanks when we pray, and that we can only pray and be thankful in what Jesus has done for us, and continues to do for us, interceding on our behalf. Then we split into classes. This year they added a class or two. There is the preschool class, this year it was all 2 yr olds, one 3 year old and one 4 year old. There biggest accomplishment we were told was learning to sit in their chairs and not get up. They added a 6 and 7 year old class, for those who are learning to read. There is an elementry school class, a middle school class, and the year the highschool/adult class was split up into a highschool class and a college/adult class. We worked on all sorts of things in class: beating time, rhythms, pitches, and leading. We had two morning classes and then lunch.

After lunch we would have another class then general assembly, where leaders would lead, and we would practice following, and actually watching the leader, rather than staring at our books. Here is a video of some stuff from one of the afternoon sessions.

In the late afternoon is when the afore mentioned games went on. During that time, some also sung Sacred Harp. As I was outlawed from games, I sung an afternoon or two, but mostly took naps, or watched the games.Later on in the evening after everyone cleaned up from the dusty and sweaty condition they were in from the games, we had supper, and evening assembly for more leaders to practice. After that we had an hour or so in the evening to play volleyball, walk around, visit, sing sacred harp, and just visit.
In the dorms, I enjoyed my last year for sometime with the girls. Talking about all sorts of boys excluded subjects, and trying to figure out when they would know if he was the right one to marry. Most of all I enjoyed our nightly devotionals. Laura always does them, and she has a great deal of insight into the scriptures. This year while the boys talked more about our theme verse, we focused on the book of Ruth, covering a chapter a night. Gary and I before we got married spent a good deal of time studying it together, but as always I was delighted to find even more in the beautiful story. There are so many wonderful pictures of Christ and His relationship with us and with the Church. It's also a great short read, if you are looking for something short to study. Finally, at the end of the week we have a Friday night assembly to allow other to see what we've been doing all week. Parents want to know that their kids are learning, the local Baptist Association whose campground we use want to know that we are doing something constructive, and the church whose building we borrow on Friday night, enjoys hearing the singing. I got several pictures of all the groups, and recorded the high school class, but I forgot to have someone record our class. The final thing I will leave you with is the high school class with Bro. Bryce. The first song is a song in the little book, I don't know the number in the new book, but it's one that Bro. Bryce wrote. The second song that they sing deserves a little recognition. The lyrics come from the old Lloyd's Hymnal, a tiny little book with around a 1,000 songs, but no music. In the past, a leader would have lined out the song, to one of the 5 to 10 sets of music that the congregation knew. The style of singing is still practiced in some parts of the country such as the Smokies. During the week, Bro. Bryce wrote the melody, and in class they wrote the other three parts. I sat in on that class, because I have always wanted to know how to write music. I have tunes that I make up, but no idea how to write them down or how to write harmony. One of the happiest things for me from this year was learning how to do this. My finished version independently done, was almost the same except for the tenor line, Bro. Bryce looked over it said it looked good to go round up some people and see how it all sounded together. I found some folk who didn't mind, and they actually liked it. My goal is to write a song by singing school next year, and they plan to have a class just for writing music and singing music that we've written next year. The highschool class's verison of the song is beautiful, I hope you will enjoy it.

All in all it was a wonderful week of fellowship and learning to serve the Lord better in our walk and in our singing.
