This year we once again spent Christmas Morning with my family. After we started the morning with playing outside in the snow, we came in for breakfast and Christmas presents. We talked Mother into not getting presents for us kids this year, and just doing Christmas for the grandkids, since none of us have any money this year with us out of a job, Matthew having just found a job, Nicholas starting on his Master's, and Benji in school at Auburn. Mother didn't like it much, and she cheated by putting gift cards in our stockings and more than just books in our book bags. It's ok though, because the boys cheated too and surprised them with a gift card for Sirius Radio. Daddy's gone on and on about how nice the satellite radio was in the car, but how he couldn't justify spending money on it, so they were really surprised and tickled with that gift. Every year at Christmas we get a stocking with candy and a book bag that goes with it. (Every holiday in our house was an excuse to buy more books. That's a tradition I would like to start.) We always left cookies out for Santa and carrots for the reindeer, and in return Santa always took time to write us a little note in handwriting, mysteriously like Daddy's. Britt and Ruth got their first Santa letter this year.
Britt still really didn't get the hang of opening presents. He did a great job ripping open the first one (which is why Nicholas wanted to give him his first), but after that he just wanted to play and not open anymore. The biggest hit might have been a little fiddle that Daddy found for him. It plays several songs either by itself on demo mode, or when you rub the strings with the bow. To tell you the truth I don't know who has enjoyed it more Gary or Britt. Sometimes Gary plays it and Britt dances and sometimes Britt bebops around the house playing it. I've had to limit him to only playing it after supper before bedtime, or I would have to hear it all day.
Ruth has liked piddling with the little pop up toys that were in her stocking. She turns the over and over in her hands, and the little person pops up and falls back in. She also seems to like to chew on the purse that she got for Christmas.
I can remember Granddaddy getting down in the floor with me and later on the boys and Maghen and wooling us. I have no idea what that word is suppose to mean, but he would get down on his knees with us laying in the floor and "wrassle" us a little and "wool" us real good. We use to love it, and get so tickled. We would always wanted more. In Granddaddy's words "It was just a good way to love on you without you knowing what I was doing." Granddaddy has never really been one to say "I love you" to us out loud, but he has always been there supporting us in his own way, and loving on us grandkids.
