The Joy of My Salvation

Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation. ~Habakkuk 3:18

"40 Days" by Third Day

Here I am at what feels like the end
And so I come to You, my Lord, again
With this burden buried deep within
This heart that You have made
In this trial that I'm going through
I don't question 'cause I know it's true
That the sorrow brings me back to You
And You have made me stronger

It's been forty days and forty nights
Down the road of many trials
And I pray it's only for a season
'Cause in the wilderness and in the flood
You're the one I'm thinking of
And I know You've brought me for a reason

I have one more thing I've got to say
Before they try to take my life away
Let it be known that I am not afraid
Let Your will be done, Lord

It's been forty days and forty nights
Down the road of many trials
And I pray it's only for a season
'Cause in the wilderness and in the flood
You're the one I'm thinking of
And I know You've brought me for a reason

I have had a trying sort of time lately. Today I got a response back from my Dream School, Rice. They don't want me either. So instead of talking to Gary on the way home tonight (I needed the time to myself to think). I drove about 60 the whole way with Third Day's Album "Come Together" and talked to God, in my very unpolished and odd sort of way.

Some of you may know that I like Third Day a great deal. Tonight, every question I put to the Lord, every doubt and fear I voiced, seemed to find a answering lyric in the next song. Right now I'm on a "road of many trials and I pray it's only for a season." I know that ultimatly things will work out, and what seems so bad now, will pass.

Chorus and second verse to "Get On"

Get on, get on, get on away from me
If you're trying to bring me down
If you're trying to bring me down
Get on, get on, get on away from me
If you're trying to bring me down
If you're trying to bring me down
So if you want to break me you better stay away
I won't listen, noI won't listen to you today
Excuse me if I still question
Carefully all of your intentions
I've decided that I won't listen
Because your words only bring division

I have decided to no longer listen to my doubts and fears about everything, and instead stay up beat despite what comes.

Chorus and second verse of "I Got You"
'Cause I've got everything I need
I got everything
I got You and You're putting it all together
And it doesn't get any better as far as I can tell
I got You right now and ever after
And it doesn't even really matter
That I've got nothing else
'Cause I got You

Where do I go when I want to know the truth?
It isn't me, well it's only You
When will I know what You have for me to do?
Is it now or is it coming soon?
Be it pleasure or be it pain
I'm ready for whatever life may bring
'Cause I know that in the end
Everything works together
For the good of those who love Him

I guess this just says it all. No matter what happens with Grad school, the family/wedding situation, classes, work, any of it. I am not going to lose sight of the bigger picture because even if things are rotten they could always be worse, I am thankful for daily blessings because even in tribulation "it doesn't get any better as far as I can tell" and that "whatever life may bring" I have Him and "it doesn't even really matter that I've got nothing else."

I got a letter back from North Carolina, they refused admission to the Graduate History Program, aka they don't want me. Well that's one down and six to go. Keep praying for guidance for me in the matter.

Some concern has been expressed in the past by various people that I am not truly country nor am I truly Southern. I for some random reason, perhaps it is the lack of anything else better to talk about or the fact that I have an unbelievable amount of homework to do, but I am choosing to answer that allegation right this moment!

It may be true that I have never technically lived out side of city limits, that I have never gone camping in the outdoors tent style, that I until two Sundays ago I had never shot a gun, I don't feel a need to have one in the house, or go hunting. Yet it is also true, that I believe that a truck is the only real vehicle, and the bigger the better, that shopping is no fun at all, that cornbread is one of the best things that some woman ever invented, and that a farm is the epitome of the good life.

I think that to say I'm not Southern is insane, "specially iffen you've ever heard me tawwk." In truth I "grew up" out in the county, in Lawrence county to be exact, and it doesn't really matter where it was that I happened to sleep every night.

In case you still have any doubts however, this should lay them all to rest. Tonight we have Tornado weather in downtown Caddo. And like all good, redneck, country, Southerners I'm hoping to see an awesome show. Mother is parniod (or maybe just intellegent) and since I'm not at home in Florence, I can't sit out and watch the storms or chase them. However I did run around in the Hobby Lobby parking lot in some seriously fun straight line winds earlier.

This weather that comes each and every year, to be followed by tornado sirens, brings some great moments to mind. 1995, I was in fifth grade, and was fighting to get a better view through our classroom window as a tornado cut across the playground and field behind the school. It might have been 100 yards away, probably closer. 2000, I was spending the night with a friend when we heard the sirens, so like everyone else, we headed out side to once again watch the tornado that was across the road, probably 200 yards or so away this time. 2004, this time it was late fall. Ty, Mel, Russ, and I were hanging out the balcony on the 13th story of Courtview Towers watching funnels all over town. We saw one really cool one touch down on the River (that would be the Tennessee), and picked out four more, before noticing the one about 20 feet over Courtview. We almost couldn't get the sliding door closed. I don't think I've ever seen glass bend and bow like that, before we all dove for the closet. Finally 2006, I was at Famous Dave's working and for the second weekend in a row Tornadoes were cutting into my tips by keeping people at home. Since there was no one around and a tornado down on the ground north of the River out around Killen (about 15 miles north of us) we all stood around in the sleet watching the incredibly cool looking wall clouds, before they finally closed the store and let us go home.

What about you people, any good storm stories, or am I the only fool among us?

Well, after fighting all week long with Verizon in an epic struggle that should qualify me to be a super hero along side Superman and Wonder Woman, I once again have a working phone. However I have no numbers, so if you want send me your number to my e-mail, daniduck44@hotmail.com. I don't want to put my number out here, and I'm sure you don't either. If you want/need mine, let me know and I'll send it back to you. Thanks wonderful people.

So I was driving back to Decatur last Thursday as usual, and admiring the senery. I am continuely amazed by the handiwork of God. I like to draw, and while I'm not a fantastic artist I like to fancy that I have a very small talent in the direction of black and white landscapes; however, I will never compare with the Lord as an artist. Each day we have a different sunset painted changing each moment for us. It's so amazing to me. I often wonder aloud, how anyone could doubt His existance when faced with this beauty.
A Dear Guy Friend South of Here, pointed out this weekend that "Home is when the terrain around you matches the terrain in your heart." I'm not going to say that I have positively seen that but I tell you. The most beautiful three places I have ever seen. The first has got to be the Farm, sunset hill was beautiful this past Sunday, only having my fellow there with me would have made it better. It's the most peaceful place in the whole world. The second is easily West Texas at night at Bethel church. The stars, so many of them everywhere, and the sweet sound of hymn singing carrying into the night, is a memory I will never forget. Finally, this drive between Decatur and Florence, most especially when the cotton fields are in full bloom. I find my home, to be one of the most amazing places on earth. So here are a few pictures headed to Decatur, and then back home on Monday. The pictures don't convey the beauty, the starkness of the trees, the rolling empty fields, the colors of the sky, but I felt compelled to try. Besides, it's always nice to take a moment from my studies, and my crazy job to thank God for little gifts like this beauty.

Alright folks, you have all been waiting for pictures of me and Gary well here they are... drum roll please...

This one is pretty much right after he gave me my ring, which I am yes, playing with. He gave it too me right before night service on Sunday, so I had to sit still and be good for the entire service before I could go back to running around in circles excited, and calling family.

So this is one I snapped of him this past weekend, when we were suppose to be taking pictures of the church for me to bring home for me and Mother to start getting wedding plan ideas from. I was like "Hey, Gary Britt," and he just turned. HAHAHA, I'm very evil.

Of course it was retribution for this terrible pic he took of me, as I told him to not take it. I had been looking at the piece that comes out, for me and him and the preacher to stand on.

This one however is my favorite pic. It's a bit fuzzy and very close, but since Gary took it with the camera phone when I was laughing I think it's a pretty good picture, back at New Years.

Well, that will have to do you guys for now.

Well, if I didn't have pnuemonia I probably do now, I went outside to play in the snow in my pjs. I was afraid that it would quit before I could change and get pictures. All of my Yankee friends will laugh, but I was super excited. We might get as much as 2 inches and class is postponed until 11 tomorrow. So check out the pictures. The first one says "Yeah snow" on Matthew's car in case you can't read it. The second one, Matthew took while I was throwing all the snow that I could get off of my car into the air. I sure hope it's still there in the morning because I want better pics and to play more, before class.
